School Messenger: September 15, 2014

Good evening Trailblazers,

This is Mrs. Graf with your Monday message.

First things first, we have much to celebrate at BRES. I want to welcome our newest staff member on board, Ms. Stalker. Look for a bio of Ms. Stalker on the Principal’s Desk blog in the near future. Additionally, we have made great progress on our sprucing up on grounds in preparing for our annual Fall Festival. Thank you to our PTA and all of those who came out to school to help spread mulch and plant in the courtyard.

On the student front, we have much to celebrate. The staff and I recently reviewed student acheivement data on our first early release day. We are making progress in closing the achievement gap. I am so proud to share that BRES reached all of our AMO targets. More information about student achievement data will come out on the Principal’s Desk blog.

Looking at our events this week:

9/15 PTA Spirit Night: Wingin It! Fuquay Varina location. This is an ALL day spirit event, so be sure you receive a receipt and place it in the Bank Road box so that our PTA receives credit (15%) for your purchase!
9/19 Grade Level Raffle Basket items due!
9/25 Parents Are Connected Night-Please plan to attend our first English Language Arts Curriculum Night. PAC stands for Parents Are Connected and we want you parents! We have thoughfully planned engaging activities in which you can learn about strategies to support your reader at home. This night is not just for students who may be challenged in reading or ELA; it’s a night where you can dive into the curriculum, explore learning as your child does and learn more about the components of the reading process here at BRES.
9/26 Fall Festival: Fun for all with the cake walk, tattoos, games and more! Our Fall Festival is becoming a Banks Road ES tradition that you don’t want to miss!

That’s it Trailblazers! All of this information will be posted on the school website and will go out on the Principal’s Desk Blog. Please call the school with any questions.

What’s going on at BRES?
Trailblazers, we are magnifying the possibilities in classrooms and throughout our school community. Check out our new addition of willow trees and crepe myrtles on the 3-5 play-ground. We are eagerly awaiting the installation of our art sculptures in the Café. I will be sure to tweet out pictures of both new enhancements to our building and grounds. Also, please be on the lookout for new technology in our Media Center and BIG enhancements to our computer lab. Our PTA and our Kraft YMCA partnerships are supporting us in strengthening our student and staff access to technology, beautifying our campus and grounds and putting relevant and meaningful curriculum materials into classrooms.

Speaking of the good work of our PTA, our PTA Coin Drive begins on September 2nd. You can send in coins any day between the 2nd and the 10th. The class that raises the most money per track will receive a party of their choice: popcorn, popsicles, pizza or icecream. All coins brought in are put towards the grade level fund and helps pay for field trips, grade level orders. The PTA is looking for volunteers to help out with the coin drive to count change for each morning at 10:30 a.m. If you can help come on out. Please visit the PTA website for more information.

Lastly, the Fall Festival is just a few weeks away. Mark your calendars for September 26th. There will once again be fun activities for the young and the young at heart. Classes are already accepting donations for their class baskets for the raffle. Class baskets are raffled off at the festival and all proceeds will go towards the grade level field trip fund. Ask your teacher about the theme of their grade level basket and how you can contribute. All basket items are due by 9/19. The BIG question is will there be a DUNK tank again? Come on out and see at our annual Fall Festival!
That’s it Trailblazers! All of this information will be posted on the school website and will go out on the Principal’s Desk Blog. Please call the school with any questions.

The program is held at BRES after-school from 4:00 until 6:00.  There is the opportunity for transportation depending on location/node.  Enrollment is open, but space is limited.  This is a FREE program.

Interested in learning more? Two parent information sessions are scheduled for next week, Thursday July 31st at 8:15 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Both sessions will be held in the Media Center.
